Residents protest the housing squeeze play
Resident groups are rightfully concerned about the impacts of the proposed EcoDensity Charter, in particular the lack of emphasis on creating complete neighbourhoods with the necessary amenities.
While we agree that environmental sustainability is an admirable goal, economic sustainability is the critical factor in determining whether there will the shops, services and jobs to maintain our "complete" neighbourhoods.
To have them, we need a vibrant business community that is not crippled with increasingly onerous municipal property taxes. We need Vancouver city council and staff to ensure our neighbourhoods -- and the businesses that serve these neighbourhoods -- continue to flourish.
