Support Fair Tax in Vancouver

Vancouver’s commercial properties account for a sixth of the total assessed value, consume less than a third of total city services, yet pay more than half the municipal property tax burden. This is unacceptable and unsustainable.

Thanks to a vigorous campaign by the Vancouver Fair Tax Coalition and the support of many business organizations and investors, over the past two years the coalition has achieved success in advocating for a more fair and equitable distribution of property taxes.

On April 19, 2007, Vancouver City Council took a step in the right direction by holding business property taxes at the 2006 level.  The previous year, city council voted to permanently shift the property tax burden by one per cent from business owners to homeowners. As a result, businesses have saved an estimated $24.5 million in business property taxes in the past two years.

Although the coalition has accomplished a lot, we still have a long campaign ahead and need support from the business community.

Help the VFTC achieve a permanent, long-term policy for the fair and equitable distribution of property taxes in Vancouver, based upon the benefits received by each class.

Invest in your organization’s future by contributing to the Vancouver Fair Tax Coalition.
